To Our Valued Listeners:
As you may know, low power FM stations like WXND were authorized by the
Federal Communications Commission to provide local content to small
service areas for non-commercial purposes. Because these stations are
non-commercial, they are licensed to, and run by, charitable
organizations and may not sell advertising. These stations must rely on
local community folks to run the organization and to obtain underwriting
grants in exchange for sponsorship mentions on-air.
Although WXND was able to sustain this existence and remain on the air
for several years, internal management and staffing issues became too
problematic to allow for continued operation. We regret that the
station could not continue providing the valuable community service it
provided in the past, and hope that others will seek to fill the niche
that this station filled for so many years. Thank you all for
